Can my child handle THAT photo session?
It is in the forefront of every mother’s mind when booking photos… what if my kid doesn’t cooperate?
No, I didn’t just read your mind, we all have these thoughts! The truth is, with young children, it can be a gamble. In my opinion, children between 12 months-4 years old can be unpredictable in the studio. However, I haven’t ever run into a child that I could not get images that their mother adores out of them!
Some things to consider when planning a session for your child;
Outdoors or studio session? We all love the perfectly posed studio fine art portraits, but we have to be honest about what from our children. If you have a rambunctious three-year-old who does not take directions well, a studio portrait session may be all wrong for them, but I guarantee that if you let me follow them around the beach at golden hour that we will capture beautiful precious moments of exploration and wonder without the struggle for mom or baby. In fact, you will both most definitely have a wonderful time making memories and playing while I capture the precious moments.
Be flexible. You may not get that exact image you saved from pinterest but you will get a unique image of your sweet baby which is always even better. Sometimes a child is too young to recreate an exact pose or look.
The circumstances of your session will never exactly the same as they were at the time and location of your inspiration image’s. I will do my best to recreate your inspiration images OR explain how and why they may differ slightly depending on location, lighting etc. It is always my priority to get you the images that YOU want.
Be prepared: feed your child before session so they feel good and bring emergency snacks and drinks (its best to feed them you change into your selected wardrobe!)
Give your photographer tools to work with: talk to me beforehand about your child’s preferences, hobbies, interests, bring a favorite toy or activity. I have tamed children with musical instruments, bubble blowing, pulling out coco melon on my I phone for a brief reprieve, challenging them to find interesting rocks and seashells, engaging in a twirling contest or footrace…. It takes something different for every child and discussing strategies beforehand can be very helpful.
SEND ME A MESSAGE so we can start planning your child's special portrait session together. I cannot wait to make magical artwork with your child!
